it's a good thing

not to quote martha stewart (don't like her much at all, i think because she enunciates so annoyingly, and oh, because she is actually annoying), but i do think it was a "good thing" that my flight back to g-town was so @&#*( early this morning (flight at 6:50am.) i was totally running on auto-pilot. had my brain actually been fully-awake and functioning, i think it would have made my body just lay down and refuse to get up.

why would i leave the states? the place where i am able to find things, where people understand me (haha or at least speak my primary language), where my family resides, where my friends play, where i can wear jewelry, where i can walk around at night, where i can drive, where i do not have to be constantly hyper-aware of my surroundings? had it not been the butt-crack of dawn, my brain would have certainly shut me down by saying, "the sushi, woman, stay for the sushi! anna's! pho!"

but alas, it was too early, my brain did not do any of those things, and so here i am in my apartamento in guate-holla. it was an interesting morning, with the ice making the drive to the airport a bit scary, and then the ice delaying my flight by 45 minutes. i had also been good about not swearing until i heard from the desk worker that there is currently an embargo on overweight baggage to guatemala! i was hoping to just pay the fee and get going. i had to open up my suitcase-business in the airport and gave my mom 20 lbs of stuff while she was laughing at me ;)

made it on the flight, but since we were late leaving, i thought i missed the connecting flight to guate. ran through the airport with my 20 lb backpack, laptop and giant purse, but luckily the connecting flight was delayed and so i got on without a hitch. i was even more surprised when i saw my luggage coming at me on the belt in guatemala city! a christmas miracle.

i'm glad to just have the journey back here over with, and having all my luggage here is a bonus too. though i'm not fully ready to be back here, i know that this is the right place for me at a time such as this. i know that i'm growing and changing, and hopefully all for the better. i've met some really great people, have seen some beautiful places, am improving my Spanish and am having great fun overall. in addition, i'm hoping that some upcoming volunteer opportunities may serve to round out my experience here.

so, i'm here. and it's a good thing indeed.
