since i don't really chronicle my life via this-here blog (not that it needs to be out there, nor do i really want it to be), i'm hoping to take on a new habitual habit of chronicling my life via one foto a day.
i got my first camera when i was six, a slick red deal housed in a pleather case that relied on double A batteries and of course, 35mm film. i remember unwrapping it from Santa on christmas day, that fateful day in 1986. my dad taught me how to load the film by pulling the tab out just so, pushing it onto the cogs, and then advancing the film until it threaded itself. it was a prized possession, always going on family vacays, school and youth group outings. i loved bringing the finished film into the drug store, or sending it away and anticipating that stack of matte prints to be returned from the beyond. i heart matte prints. i cut up them up, put them on my walls, gave them away and catalogued them meticulously. i had that camera for 12 years, before i upgraded upon graduating from high school. my first (camera) love.
i still love cameras.
i love memories.
i love re-living things.
i love all that can be seized in just a fraction of one second.
(i overuse the word "love.")
so, when i saw on the facebook that my friend started a "one photo a day for a year challenge," i decided to jump on her bandwagon, but will be going for one month at a time. starting small.
though my fotos may not reflect a knowledge of composition or really be that poignant or interesting at all to the general discerning public, they will mostly be the high points of my days. some will be boring, many will be accidents, and you can trust that a significant chunk will be food p*rn... but they will all be fun, simple and whimsical. memories.
here we go!
