Two months

Happy 2nd monthiversary, Qatar!  Slowly but surely, poco a poco, I am making the transition from thinking that I am on an extended vacation to believing this is my new temporary home. Everything is more familiar, I have more of a routine and I am starting a life here.  I have to admit: This transition has been difficult, leaving a great community and starting up fresh... but that, too, shall pass soon enough.

Some things in the past month that have helped me preserve some semblance of sanity:
  • Singing:  I joined a community choir that meets once a week.  We're already working on a December concert, so that means I started singing Christmas music in September.  Some of you may know that's my own personal hell (Christmas music more than a week before Christmas) but I was so homesick for Boston and Guateholla that I didn't care.
  • Material belongings:  My shipment came!  And there was much rejoicing in the land.  It helped turn my apartment into more of a home, and brought some color in.
  •  Residence:  We got our residence permits, enabling us to start signing up for services and ironically, lets us leave the country.  Which leads me to...
  • NEPAL:  For the Eid holiday next week, I am heading to Kathmandu to kick it for a few days.  I think it will be fun to get back into the gritty developing word, and out of this Golden Sandbox.  I just need a break!
 Some fotos for those non-Facebookers:

My classroom before Parent night-- the cleanest it will be all year.

Part of the mosque at night.  Arabic architecture is gorgeous.

Doha, the capital city, has beautiful skyscrapers, and you definitely can see the fact that so many different architects were commissioned to design, because it's all so different.
