went to costa rica for a spell during the Thanksgiving long weekend! just a few hours in the air and we were far away from G-town. ruth and kammie were my rad traveling buds, and the word of the weekend was "relax." quite a feat, but someone's gotta do it.
we drove down to manuel antonio/quepos from san jose, which was a few hours. on the way, we stopped at a bridge where these crocodiles were sunning themselves on the banks of the river. even the costa rican crocodiles know how to take a step back. amazing creatures.

this monkey and the following animals (and more!) were seen at the Manuel Antonio National Park, which was the main attraction of this area of CR. based on the advice of others from my school, we got a park guide, who was trolling around at the entrance of the park. it cost $20 USD per person, but it was worth it since it would have just been a nice walk in the park if we hadn't. the guide explained and taught us all about the fauna and the am-in-als, and he had a telescope which helped us to see so much more.
my first sloth-- cute!
the next day after the park, ruth and i took the public bus down to the beach. we got this place for $4 USD-- and vendors came up and down the beach trying to sell stuff.here was one such vendor, trying to pedal his ceramic wares to the tourists. we chatted him up and then i asked him for a picture-- note his hat!

paradiso.
we wanted to get back to san jose with plenty of time to make the plane. we got on a shuttle from the beach-town quepos ($6USD), which took a few hours, and then i arranged a cab to take me to see the de la Pena Vanderpols. they are still totally edible!!! i got to hang out with the entire family for a few hours.

jodi drove me to the airport with plenty of time to spare, but stupid copa air had overbooked and thus we were bumped from the flight. nooooooo! had to return to the airport in the morning and had to miss a day of work.
BUT, costa rica, i will be back one day.
