recent hallelujah moments

*food: this weekend i made reasonable approximations of pad thai noodles (ok, i cheated with a pad thai sauce... but i added some other stuff to build and enhance the flavors) and an indian chicken curry (with a pre-made curry powder, but seriously, the ingredient list for indian food is always a mile long). this might just carry me over to 30 june, when i get back home to sweet ol' ethnic food. on saturday morning, i also finally got to the large chinese/asian market here and got some pre-made dumpling wrappers, frozen broiled unagi, frozen edamame, dried shiitakes, wa mui and a steamer rack. awesome!

*fun: speaking of air guitar, i also finally played rock band for the first time tonight. i'm deeply smitten. this will carry me over to karaoke time in the states and help me pretend that i know how to play the guitar indeed.

*family: my parents land in guatemala city sometime this friday afternoon. i'm the most excited about this! we'll have a low-key long weekend in guatemala, then head to costa rica on tuesday until sunday. on sunday evening, hopefully my mom will (teach me how to) cook my favorite cantonese foods... i even bought a bunch of groceries from the aforementioned asian grocer in anticipation of this, hopefully we won't be too tired. then they'll fly out on monday morning :(

  1. Don't know if you've ever seen these instant pad thai noodles that they sell in chinese supermarkets. I eat it pretty often when I'm not around the real thing (i.e. thai restaurants). Have a wonderful time w/ your parents in town!
